Role Purpose

As the Wine Buyer – Imports & Category Development, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and securing exclusive imported wines into the Australian market for Vinomofo. You’ll play a key role in discovering and onboarding new international producers, developing strategic relationships, and owning the end-to-end growth and performance of our imported wine portfolio.
You will champion category excellence—ensuring quality, price, uniqueness, and story are aligned with Vinomofo’s customer and brand. From product discovery and shipping logistics through to promotional strategy and lifecycle management, you’ll take full ownership of your category.

Key Responsibilities

1. Import Sourcing & Producer Relationships

  • Identify high-quality, commercially viable international wines with strong customer potential
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with global wineries, brokers, and agents
  • Negotiate commercial terms, exclusivity agreements, and volumes with producers
  • Attend key global trade fairs (e.g., Prowein, Vinitaly) and travel for sourcing as required

2. Category Strategy & Ownership

  • Build and manage a compelling, data-driven category plan for imported wines
  • Develop deep customer understanding to identify gaps and opportunities in the market
  • Create and execute long-term strategies to grow share, margin, and customer engagement
  • Forecast demand and align inventory planning with sales channels and campaign cycles

3. Commercial Execution & Collaboration

  • Brief products to Creative, Marketing, and Sales teams to bring them to life across all channels
  • Collaborate closely with the Dealer, Whisky, and Sales teams to maximise performance
  • Track and manage product lifecycle from launch through to sell-through and exit strategy
  • Monitor category performance KPIs: sell-through rates, GP%, Quality scores of wine

4. Logistics & Compliance

  • Coordinate with internal Logistics and Finance teams to manage international freight, customs, and compliance
  • Ensure supplier paperwork, labelling, and duties are handled accurately and timely

  • Growth in imported wine revenue and margin
  • Strong pipeline of new, exclusive international producers
  • Exceptional category health (sell-through, stock turns, customer satisfaction)
  • Recognised internally as a go-to expert for your category

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in wine buying, ideally with import experience
  • Deep wine knowledge and strong commercial instincts
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Highly organised with strong analytical and planning capabilities
